it’s been 2 weeks, i think, since we ordered my computer, and still waiting. aparently it’s because they are having a hard time getting a legal copy of Windows XP Home. had i chosen Vista, i would already have it. Some don’t mind Vista, some others had some issues with it. maybe i’m just crazy, but even though it’s almost tempting to call them up and tell them i’ll take Vista and send it to me already, i’d preffer waiting for XP.
and i have been guilty of procrastination for a while. as always. 5 days ago, it was my daughter’s birth day. we didn’t make a huge party for her, just a cake and a few gifts. I always wish i would organize a sweet little reception with a few kids and some fun activities and what ever other parents do for their kids birthday, but i can’t seem to get IT together. then, when i mentioned that to my mother, she reminded me that she never did it for me either and growing up in a big family, they never did much aside from a cake either. so I guess it has not been passed on as a tradition. I have nothing to model from and I’m at lost. Is it really a big deal?
whenever i tried to come up with some plan with my husband, he doesn’t seem to think birthday are a big deal either. although, my son is going to turn 5 years old in august and i feel i would like to do something a little more special to highlight that milestone. what do you think? any suggestions?
I had a few relatively simplistic ideas:
- go for a pick nick and a day at the beach. although i’d like to do that more often then the one time last year and before august too.
- the zoo, but that too i’d like to go before august.
- a reception at home would be ok if i could find peoples/kids to invite
- there’s the waterslide park that has a fee, or the Centenial Park’s water play zone that is free and has pick nick areas
but if i have all those fun outdoor plans, i should also have a indoor plan “B” in case it rain that day. also to consider that restaurants could be very tricky because the kids are both on a Gluten/Dairy free diet.
for that reason, my daughter’s birthday cake was a minor failure. i say minor because even though as a cake, technically, it failed miserably, with a big air pocket and a massive doughy bottom but it still tasted very good. i’m struggling very hard to resist going to cut myself a piece right not.
today i had an appointment over an hour and a half up north from here, and while i was there, there was a chalk board for sale at the city surplus that i wanted to pick up. there was one that was all put together, and had some minor damage to it in a corner. but they said they had some new ones, still in the box, in a storage trailer. so that’s what they sold me. the box was somewhat falling apart and a piece fell on the way to the minivan, i picked it up and placed it in our vehicle, but when i got home, i found out, the other one was missing, so i can’t put it together yet. hoping they will find the missing piece or a replacement for me and agree on a way to get it to me. failing that, i hope the company that make it will be able to send me one… the warranty card was in the box, along with instruction and the rest of the assembling supply. i learned something new about chalkboards today though. they need to be broken in! and not only when they are new, but if you wash it too. you have to chalk the whole thing up with the side of a chalk, and then rub it in with the felt eraser. then repeat. finish with a clean, soft cotton rag.
i guess that just about wraps it up for tonight.
oh yeah, there’s the gardening we did in the weekend and finally have all our seeds planted and a nice herb patch on the other side of the house. i’m proud of it and i might add some pictures later. maybe after it starts actually growing? hehe since now it mostly look like a big patch of dirt.
now i go cut the chicken apart, make ground chicken burgers with the legs and stir fry strips with the breasts. the wings… i save those for Owen’s birthday.
i’m out!
I guess it depends if you want to invite kids from petit crayon or not, and if they live near Moncton or woudl be able to travel to Moncton or not…
I don’t recall having birthday parties before the age of like 5 either… And the first birthday party I ever had was a surprise birthday party but mom had forgotten to explain the concept of a surprise party before… I ended up scared shitless and crying in front of everyone hehe.
