months ago, when it was still oh, too cold, we had a visit to a farm with the community’s kid group, so the children could see sheep. it was organized to set the mood for Easter. and the farmer wannabe in me couldn’t help but ask question to the kind shepherd. he informed me that he had a black sheep, and he couldn’t sell it’s wool to the wool mill and he would save it for me if i wanted it. Joy! can i say no to wool? to my dear husband’s greif… hmmm, nnno, i don’t think i can, beside it’s just from one sheep or 2 and what’s one more bag of wool? yeah, yeah, i know, i still have some white one from 4-5 years ago that i havn’t washed yet. but it’s black! naturaly black. and it’s soft and fluffy and, you just have to ask any lady that gather together to spin wool. it’s adictive and comforting.
so today, i took the kids for a ride to the sheep farm because the farmer has called to inform me that he finaly sheered his sheeps… himself. because the sheerer never came. what an adventure. anyway, so it’s quite the job to do and he broke his sheers in the process and feel it’s not worth his trip to go to the wool mill with this little wool. and after handing me the bag of black wool, he say, do you want the white too? i was kinda in shock. i wasn’t expecting that, i was just going for a bit of black wool, but since he was going to try and burn it if i didn’t take it… i had to rescue it.
before i left to go to the farm i was already sensing my husband’s disaproval of going to get one bag, now try to explain the minivan’s back full of bags. so i told him what i told the farmer and others on the way… i can add it to the compost, till it in the soil of the garden, it will provide nutrition to the soil, our poor soil, our garden is having a hard time again this year with this hard clumpy clayish dirt. it sur can use all the organic matter we can provide it. and yes there’s at least one bag of wool, the sheep is white and brown and although i have no issue with multicolored wool, this one only grow short… not suitable for spinning. so it will go in the compost pile. the rest of the wool, the nice one? euh, not sure i have the courage to compost it. too soft and fluffy.
on the way back, i thought i’d stop at an other farm, the one where we’re gonna get bunnies and chickens, they have a son a bit older then Owen but in the country, kids have to take the friends they can. the dogs were loose so i figured they were home and sure enough they were, the daddy came out and felt bad that they were getting ready to leave to see his parents and their son was already all dressed nice and tidy. but that’s part of life and we’ll just have to stop by an other time. still plenty to do around our house.
like weeding the garden while hubby corded some wood, i started washing the wool, walked the dog, washed a few coutch cushions because our dear daughter pooped then went to climb on the coutch to look outside and didn’t give me enough time to get her down from there that she sat on the coutch to get down from it… with her poopy butt. and now, i should go count the sheeps because it’s mighty late.
Wow nice !Weren’t you going to make a wool mattress at some point ?
